How to grow lettuce all year round?Updated 3 months ago

The secret to growing lettuce all year round is in the varieties. Depending on your location and temp you may be able to grow iceberg lettuce during summer but they definitely prefer the cooler weather, probably why the were called iceberg in the first place. In winter, and provided you don't live north of the Tropic of Capricorn, you should have great results with this ever so popular variety.

All lettuce types will grow well in winter.

In summer you can grow varieties such as cos (romaine), butterhead and oak leaf, also known as fancy lettuce. In fact i have grown cos and oak leaf in my Salad Tables through heatwaves with temps above 40deg for days, and in full sun. Admittedly they may droop a little in the searing heat but they prop back to life as soon as the sun goes down.

Experiment with your favourite varieties, you may be pleasantly surprised.
