The Salad Table Nutrient ExplainedUpdated 3 months ago

The Salad Table nutrient can used in ALL forms of hydroponics, aeroponics and aquaponics.

We provide you the same nutrient that we use on our own farm in the Brisbane Valley, QLD. We have proven over the years that our nutrient is all that is required to grow anything and everything, all year round. Your nutrient levels are measured in what is called EC and is a very specific and technical process. But don’t worry, we have taken all the guess work out for you. All you have do is follow our simple instructions and in no time you will be harvesting your own fresh produce.
The Salad Table nutrient (plant food) contains all the essential elements to keep plants thriving. The difference with soil gardening is that instead of being held in soil, all the essential elements are put in liquid form and fed directly to your plants root system. This makes it very simple to have full control over how much food your plants receive which results in faster growing healthy produce. A fast-growing healthy plant is less prone to disease and insect attack.

Your 2 part nutrient kits consists of part A and part B. It is delivered in powder form and all you need to do is mix with water. We supply complete kits including containers or as a refill kit which not only reduces plastic waste but also saves you money.

Application rate and instructions - (scroll down to watch our Nutrient instructional video)

  • Add 2.5ml of part A and 2.5ml of part B per 1 litre of water.
  • As your plants start to grow you will see the water level start to drop. This is normal as the plants uptake water and nutrient. Other processes such as evaporation take place and this is especially evident during the warmer months or when your herbs and veggies are at their later stages of growth. With larger varieties and mature produce, it is normal to have to refill your nutrient tank every few days. In fact, growing the same amount of produce in soil uses up to 10 times the amount of water and nutrient that The Salad Table uses.
  • When topping up your reservoir add the proportionate amount of nutrient to water. For example, use 25ml of A and 25ml of B to every 10L of water. Don’t worry if you don’t know the exact measurements…. It’s not an exact sience!!!

Note - Over time the nutrient in your reservoir tank may become unbalanced so we recommend draining and replenishing with a fresh batch approx. every 4 – 6 weeks. This action will ensure your plants are being fed perfectly at all times.

Adjusting pH (VERY OPTIONAL)
It is believed that pH stands for "power of Hydrogen" although this term has been disputed for a long time. Simply put, it means how acidic or alkali something is, be it soil, water and even your skin.

  • 0 - being very acidic,
  • 14 -being very alkali
  • and 7 being neutral

When the pH is not at the optimum level, plants will lose their ability to absorb some of the essential elements required for healthy growth. For all plants there is a particular pH level that will produce optimum results. This pH level will vary from plant to plant, but in general most plants prefer a slightly acidic growing environment between 5.5 and 6.5
Lucky for us most herbs and vegetables can survive quite well outside their optimum levels. In my commercial operation my pH levels are measured and adjusted by sensors and computers because there are many thousands of plants fighting for their share of essential elements. This can create large variations in pH levels.
I personally don’t adjust my pH levels in any of my Salad Tables and yet I have produced a continuous supply of good quality, healthy and nutritious plants for my family, friends, neighbours, colleagues and strangers for years. The reason for this is the continuous addition of nutrient and water. This keeps your pH and EC (detailed below) floating around the optimum levels of most varieties.
If you choose, it is very simple to keep an eye on and adjust your pH and much easier to check and adjust than soil pH. Most hardware stores and nurseries sell paper test strips or liquid pH test kits that are inexpensive. To adjust pH you simply add pH adjusters for up or down changes, also inexpensive and readily available.

EC – Electrical Conductivity - Is a measure of the total salts concentration in a nutrient solution, or simply put, the amount of food you are feeding your plants. EC is a very technical subject that you need not worry about (that’s my job). Any soluble nutrient product can be added to water to achieve the “right EC reading” but if that product isn’t perfectly balanced to your situation, the EC reading means absolutely nothing. Our nutrient IS perfectly balanced and when used following my instructions you will achieve great results.

Quality nutrient is without a doubt the key to hydroponic growing. You can have best hydroponic system, the best climate and even the greenest thumb, but if you get the nutrient wrong, you’re sure to fail. The Salad Table nutrient has been proven on many varieties, literally millions of times, year after year.

Our nutrient contains the following essential natural elements -

nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, sulphur, magnesium, zinc, iron, copper, boron, manganese, molybate and calcium nitrate

We offer 2 convenient sized packages - (scroll down to see our complete range video)

  • 2L pack – includes 1L part A and 1L part B. Makes 400L
  • 10L pack – includes 5L part A and 5L part B. Makes 2000L

Note – do not store concentrated part A and part B in one container as calcification will cause visible salts to develop thus making it harder for plants to uptake the required nutrient elements.
